05/10/03 Waitaupo Hot Springs New Zealand
Hmm…ate way too much today, but okay because going on a four day hike tomorrow. Got up around 7:30 this morning and ate some “Frosties.” Drove to Waitaupo for the hot springs which were awesome.
Lots of funky colors and steaming water. Saw some hallucinogenic mushrooms, but as Beth wasn’t around decided not to partake. Also saw geyser go off, then drive during which I read half of Prince Caspian.
EXTREMELY nice lady at campsite helped us decide where to go on our hike of the Northern Circuit. Going to leave camper here, then go on bus. Should be pretty cool tomorrow. Mount Doom!
Played lots of ping pong with Ryan with a wooden board for a net. Also watched some New Zealand Big Brother and the Simpsons. I fried the cheese sandwich in the microwave, but ramen noodle cup was excellent.
Played rummy and Kathleen won. Very frustrating. Sleep around 10 o clock to get up early. Tommorrow is b-day!!
Worried about my pack–too much or not enough.
Highpoint: Asking Ryan for a favor: “Can you tell me one things you DON’T love about New Zealand?”
Lowpoint: Last few hands of rummy I couldn’t get ANYTHING.
Random Thought: Can a person not crap for four days on a hiking trip purely by mental thought?
