Once every month or so, I am forced to undergo what I call ‘Clean up my life day’ (or week depending on how much I’ve been slacking). Basically, cleaning up my life entails doing all of the things I should have been doing along the way, but haven’t.

A couple of friends at first laughed at the idea, but have since used the term when engaging is such activities. It may not be fun, but it feels good afterward.

This list usually includes:

Cleaning the shower
Grocery shopping
Calling back people who have left me messages but I haven’t responded
Laundry
Going through the refrigerator
Email people
Remove all the junk from my car
Get my hair cut
Go through bills/paperwork
Clean out my closet
Analyze finances
Iron
Clip fingernails
Return things I’ve borrowed
Shave
Empty all the wastebaskets
Go through medicine cabinet

Once ‘Clean up my life day’ is over, I bask in that one solitary moment when all is right with the world and I feel no guilt when I sit on the couch eating ice cream. Then before I know it, it all slips away again….
