mybloglog

A few weeks ago I contacted Google Adsense help about the frustrations I was having in the drastic difference between the number of outgoing clicks shown by Google versus through MyBlogLog. (MyBlogLog is a service that collects data about the page visits and outgoing clicks from a person’s blog.)

Recently, many bloggers such as 901am have been removing themselves from MyBlogLog because they are afraid it will get them banned from Google Adsense.

Why? Because when people sign the agreement to use Google Adsense, it states not that the person who uses it on his/her site will not disclose confidential information about results of using the system.

Since I added MyBlogLog code to my site to track data, Google Adsense could interpret that as me disclosing this information to MyBlogLog. In actuality, I signed up for MyBlogLog to track stats. Later I joined Google Adsense and suddenly clicks on Google ads were tracked through them. There is no way of disabling tracking of specific items through MyBlogLog.

Here’s where things get interesting. I had a day last month where I received my largest day of traffic through a blog post about avoiding making friends at work submitted to Reddit. I had close to 8,000 page view that day…very exciting for me.

When all was said and done I noticed a large discrepancy between the clicks logged by both systems. Over 20 times more clicks shown through MyBlogLog than I was credited by Adsense.

I was obviously interested in the situation and after some research in the web found a few blogs in similar situation, but none as much as mine. Also, everything I found said something to the effect of “You’ve got to just go by what Adsense tells you and accept it.”

I tried to do so, but after something similar happened another time it was driving me bonkers. After all the stuff I read online, I was a little fearful of contacting Adsense customer service and mentioning MyBlogLog, but couldn’t help it.
